An Exciting End to the Term: Competitions, Music, and Dublin Adventures

Writer: Lars S. (Germany)Lars S. (Germany)

A Calm Start to the Year

Compared to the last few months, especially around Christmas, the past few weeks have been much calmer and more relaxing. It has been an amazing, yet for once, not overly hectic time - still packed with exciting moments but without a single boring minute.

After the Christmas exams, school returned to normal, apart from the occasional test. I continue making new friends both in and outside the classroom, which makes my lessons even more enjoyable.

Final Weeks Before the CanSat Competition

The countdown to the CanSat competition is on! Over the last few weeks, our entire team has come together to complete the final tasks.

On my end, I finished soldering the components for our primary mission and tested everything to ensure it was functioning properly. With the help of a teammate, I also sewed the parachute, and we are currently making the final preparations for the launch.

In other exciting news, our FlopSat Instagram account has taken off! Thanks to some well-crafted memes and engaging posts, we managed to gain an incredible 5 million views and a wave of new followers.

A Beautiful Evening at Saint Patrick’s Cathedral

One of the top things left on my Ireland bucket list was attending an Irish church service. I have always loved evensong and Christian choirs, so during midterm, I took the opportunity to visit Saint Patrick’s Cathedral for a service.

It was absolutely beautiful, with breathtaking music. I enjoyed it so much that I went again the following week! This time, the choir was accompanied by choirboys and a powerful organ, which elevated the experience even more.

Exploring Collins Barracks

As my time in Dublin starts to wind down, I’m making sure to check off the last few sights on my list. One of those was Collins Barracks, which I found to be one of the best museums in Ireland that I’ve visited so far.

The museum is packed with fascinating artefacts and rich Irish history, but what really caught my eye was the impressive collection of planes and tanks. The exhibits are well-presented with clear, informative signs that tell the story behind each piece.

Of course, no trip would be complete without stopping by my favourite doughnut shop along the way!

Getting Back into Athletics

With the weather improving, we no longer have to train in the rain as often. This means we’ve been able to return to our pre-winter training routine and focus on getting fit for upcoming competitions.

Recently, I competed in a race - though I’m still getting used to running a mile, I gave it my all and even achieved a new personal record!

Trad Group’s Breaktime Concert

On the musical side of things, our Trad Group is back to practising regularly after our successful Christmas performance. We are now preparing for our next big event - a lunchtime concert next Tuesday!

I still need to do some practice, but I’m confident that everything will go well, and it will be a fun experience for everyone involved.

As my time in Ireland slowly comes to an end, I realise how precious every moment is. I’m making the most of it - spending as much time as possible with my friends and host family and cherishing every experience.
