A Magical Trip to Cork
Together with a friend, I embarked on an exciting trip to Cork. After his dad kindly drove us to Heuston Station, we boarded the train to Cork and started our adventure.
Our first stop was the English Market, a charming and historic market filled with atmosphere and delicious treats. Next, we explored Elizabeth Fort, a 17th-century English fort with a fascinating history as both a defence structure and a prison. Standing atop its walls, we admired breathtaking views of Cork City.
Our journey continued to Saint Fin Barre’s Cathedral, a stunning French Neo-Gothic church. As a fan of this architectural style, I found it absolutely mesmerising.
After a delightful lunch, we rounded off the day with visits to the Cork City Museum and the lively Marina Market. The city, adorned with Christmas decorations, was simply magical, making our trip unforgettable.
Family, Friends, and Festivities
I celebrated Christmas back home with my family, which was a heartwarming experience. Initially, I worried about safely bringing back the presents I’d bought in Ireland, but everything worked out perfectly.
During the holiday, we also visited my grandparents, who live a fair distance away. Later, my friends and I threw a goodbye party for a friend embarking on a student exchange year. Spending time with loved ones made Christmas all the more special.
The Chaotic Return to Ireland
Returning to Ireland wasn’t without its challenges. I had to wake up incredibly early to catch my flight, but a snowstorm caused traffic delays, forcing me to rebook my ticket. After enduring gate changes and further delays, I finally arrived in Ireland. From the airport, I took the bus to Ratoath, followed by a snowy walk to my host family’s house. Despite the chaos, I was relieved to be back.
Back to School: A Fresh Start
Returning to school after two weeks of speaking German took some adjustment, but I quickly regained my footing in English. It felt great to reconnect with the friends I’d made during the first term and resume training with my athletics club.
With Christmas exams on the horizon, I haven’t studied as much as I’d like, but I feel confident about most subjects.
Looking Ahead to the Second Term
Overall, I had a wonderful Christmas break filled with new experiences and cherished moments. I’m ready to embrace the second term in Ireland and look forward to the exciting adventures it may bring.
