Public School Program (USA)
US Public schools are at the heart of the American educational system with their high school programmes proving the most popular exchange programme for thousands of students each year.
Typically the programme involves placement in a small community which can be anywhere in the US and living with a local volunteer host family. This program encourages complete integration into a real American community, getting involved not just in school life but also in the social, cultural and sports aspects.
Note: Public schools do not generally permit exchange students to graduate and do not generally award High School Diplomas to exchange students. If you wish to graduate from an American school, you must leave the US at the end of your programme and re-apply for a programme in a Parochial or Private school.
The main advantages of this programme are:
- Accepts students from the age of 15 – 18
- Stay for semester or year
- Quality education
- Real integration in a local community
- Extra curricular activities and sports available in most schools
- Volunteer host families
- Coeducational and non-denominational schools
- No uniform required
